Today I welcome author and very good friend, Arlie Sheelin, who has dropped in to tell us about her books.
- Will you tell us a little about yourself. Please include a picture if you wish.
Thank you for having me Clair. A little about myself? I dream of living in a house by a lake or a castle, because really, if you can live in a castle you should.
I have written the first book in a sci-fi series (The Samina Experiment. The Samina Experiment is being reviewed by a publisher at this point, so I have no release date set yet. ) and am working on three other books in the series right now. Mainly because my characters refuse to politely, wait their turn. They are a very demanding bunch. The other day the lot of them ganged up on me and gave me a huge reveal that shocked even me. I was frantically writing trying to get it all down before I forgot anything.
I’ve brought pictures of the main characters in The Samina Experiment, if you are interested Clair?
Who could help being fascinated by those four. I can’t wait to read The Samina Experiment, Arlie.
2. Why did you start to write? Have you always longed to write a book or was there a trigger?
When I was in grade 6, we wrote a poem. My teacher really liked it and said to me “you’re a writer.” It resonated so strongly in me. It was like this amazing moment of truth. I have been writing ever since then.
3. What sort of books do you write?
I write erotic/sci-fi/romance novels.
I’m sorry Clair but one of my characters, Holly, is really insisting that I show you some pictures she slipped into my bag. Just let me see what she did here… Oh my goodness! Holly is going to be in trouble with the boys if they see these!
4. How autobiographical is your story?
I think that a little bit of the author always ends up in the story. However, unless I can get myself abducted by smoking hot aliens, it is not autobiographical at all.
5. Have you a favourite setting for your stories?
I love to create new and amazing worlds. The complexity of creating believable planets, populated by alien civilizations fascinates me.
6. Which author or authors have influenced you and why?
I have three authors who have had an influence on me. Lora Leigh, Christine Feehan, and Nalini Singh. They write with an incredible talent to show the emotion of the story, to show the horror and the healing.
7. If you could have only one book, which one would it be and why?
This is a really hard question. I think it would be Lora Leigh’s book ‘Mercury’s War.’ I cry every time I read it.
8. How do you get yourself in the mood for writing?
I have to be alone. I turn on the tunes. Have a nice hot cup of tea and my laptop. And then I just give my imagination free reign.
9. What is the strangest place you have written in?
The car. Wait… the Dr’s office… wait… in the line at the grocery store… In bed at 4 am squinting at the page… uh let’s just say that there are times when no matter where you are you have to write down that amazing idea that just popped into your mind.
10. Have you ever experienced ‘writer’s block’ and how did you cope with it?
Haven’t we all? If it is in the middle of a scene, I usually get up and walk around, maybe do some house work and if all else fails I go and do something totally different like going to a movie.
11.Where do you live? Tell us what you like about your town or city?
I live in Canada. The city I live in is friendly and we have a lot of green areas.
12. If you could live anywhere in the world where would you choose and why?
Some place tropical. Spiders don’t bother me we have a pet tarantula. Why? Warmth and sunshine. I crave sunshine.
13. What is your pet hate?
Bullying and people who think they have the right to judge.
14. Which fictional character do you wish you’d created?
Jonas Wyatt.

The Samina Experiment
Written by Arlie Sheelin
Holly St. Claire’s life is changed forever in a matter of seconds. Her world and everything she thought she knew about it, shattered by forces beyond her control. Abducted and forced to become the test subject of a horrific experiment created by a lunatic, she survived his insanity, but could she survive the results of his experiment? Could she escape the plan he had put into motion?
Navy seals, Storm Kenyon and Sev Conder have fought beside each other through the worst of hells. Now they have been called in for one last mission, a mission that will change their lives and the world, as they know it. They must protect a woman who was abducted by aliens, and genetically altered in a horrific experiment, a woman who holds the fate of humanity in her hands.
